About Campo dei Fiori Regional Park

Established in 1984, Campo dei Fiori Regional Park encompasses approximately 6,600 hectares in the Prealps overlooking the city of Varese in northern Italy. The park is characterized by its rugged limestone and dolomite ridges, lush beech and chestnut forests, meadows, and karst formations. Its highest peak, Monte Campo dei Fiori, reaches 1,227 meters (4,026 feet) and offers panoramic views over the Alps, the Po Valley, and Lake Maggiore. The park hosts a wealth of flora including rare orchids and endemic plants, as well as fauna such as deer, foxes, badgers, and various bird species like the black woodpecker and eagle owl. Historically, the area was inhabited since prehistoric times and features the ruins of old settlements and military fortifications dating back to World War I. Visitors can explore an extensive network of hiking and mountain biking trails, visit the astronomical observatory located at the summit, and discover the natural caves and springs. The park’s proximity to the city of Varese makes it an accessible natural retreat favored by locals and tourists alike. It offers a blend of nature, cultural heritage, and outdoor activities year-round, including winter hiking and snowshoe trekking during colder months.
